Hey, does anyone have info about how to transfer money from Vietnam to my US bank account if I do not have a work permit?  Loopholes or such?

It's very hard that one of the reason foreigner and Viet kieu does not want to buy property in VN. Once you sold it good luck to transfer money out.

But if you did declare it when you came to VN it think it much easier or just carry cash out 5K limit allowed.

Now is no time to toy around with Vietnamese monetary policies.  The country is very tight on cash.  The last thing you want to happen to you now is to get caught laudering hard currencies out of Vietnam.  They would throw the book at you.

Just don't mess with this, or advertise your sinister intention.

I had extensive talk with my bank a few weeks ago (ANZ) about this very topic. I was told that if you are a holder of a foreign passport and you can prove the "source" of your money then it's legal to transfer it out of the country to a foreign account.

Do you have any friends with relatives or family in the US? Person in the US can transfer money to your bank account and you pay cash to their relative here. That's how it's usually done for relatively small amount of money (<$10k)

Nothing sinister. I have student loans back home that I need to pay and the work permit is taking quite a while. I have a job teaching and just need to get money to my account for my loans. Maybe I can try and show them my contract for the jobs? I was under the assumption that with no work permit, it won't happen. Which I need solved in the next few weeks, so that I don't incur late charges for student loans. If you feel more comfortable private messaging me so that there is no 'advertising of sinister intentions' that is fine too.

There shouldn't be any problem wire transferring to an account overseas to pay bills. My goodness. that's how I paid my mortgage back in the States when I was working in Asia. You can even carry 5000 bucks cash out of the country legally so bank transfer to take care of bills shouldn't be a problem. Have you spoken to your bank?
