Do I need to make a run for the border?

Nam_

My tourist visa is up soon and I was advised by some here that I may need to leave the country this time in order to renew...

The travel agent who arranged my last extension said they could renew it for me again for a small additional fee (and another °µÍø½ûÇø messaged me to say that they have been able to repeatedly renew their tourist visa without leaving the country) but I am wondering if that is the case why am always hearing about °µÍø½ûÇøs going to Cambodia just to renew their visa?

I'm tempted to forgo the trip and pay the extra fee but I don't want the travel agent to do something shady which will cause my visa to be cancelled. So what is the real deal regarding tourist visas? Can you (legally) get them renewed without leaving the country or not?

Thanks!

Typically you can renew your visa in country twice. It is\has been possible to extend further without leaving the country but your leaving yourself exposed to the risk of having your visa canceled and deported from the country.
Visa runs to Cambodia tend to be done as this is the easiest\cheapest way to do it. A quick trip to Phnom Penh apply for your visa and job done. 6 month visa (and occasionally 12 months) are more easily obtained here too. I've heard of people having visa downgraded, but never personally met anyone who has had this happen too.

no, you will be fine, just let the travel agent to do it

From Cambodia to Vietnam has no visa on arrival on the border. but from Vietnam to Cambodia does.
