Rubber band time, something I'm afraid I'll never get use to here. Almost makes me wanna go to Germany to get a dose punctuality.Ìý

After a few months, like most things I got use to time meaning within 2 hours.

When you get to Asia forget about being punctual. We are famous for being late

Being a German Vietnamese I was always on time because it's impolite to be late.

However since living in Asia I'm late at least 10 to 15 minutes. Traffic you know or just laziness. Quite relaxing not to rush

Just to give you an example of the Rubber Time

Invitation for a wedding here:

Time: on invitation 5.30pm
Expected Time and when the dinner starts: 7.30

We know that people will run late so we give them 2 hours to come haha

If it is not a serious ( eg: company meeting) meeting, it's a practice to come late. But I always try to be punctual whether it is a serious meeting or less serious one. Some people purposefully be late to get attention from others! Anyway it's not a good practice to be late on occasions.

Time, is the first thing, I teach my staff, ,eel two of time is basic math using the formula: you are 2 hours late and we have lost that much business. If they have not gasp that during probation period, than I am very sorry for their gone job. The odd 5-10 minutes and the flat tire is excluded, I mean serious lateness on repeated occasions and call off.

Well I wouldnt be too late for a business meeting or work.

What really works is to have the employees check in via finger print or card system. We also use CCTV:)

So if you're late you stay late.

However most people I know aren't that late. 15 Minutes is my tolerance unless I know they stuck in traffic or have other things to do.

I think being punctual is a cultural habit or lack of, from my experience it is more prevalent in developing countries. My husband is Latino, and when he travels to Latin America (and he does a lot) he says the same thing about them being late and things never getting done on time. He is never late for anything but that is because he served in the military for 31yrs so he is very disciplined when it comes to time management. My mother who is Vietnamese has lived in the U.S. for 44 yrs is always late for everything. I think that part of her culture is engrained into her and will stay with her no matter what country she lives in.Ìý
