Another foreigner died yesterday.

Seath forder

So I cannot find the article at the moment I believe it can be found on FB. But what I do know from some friends and a guest of the hotel. It was 8/10/14 I think afternoon time an Argentinan women age 21, arrived that morning and checked in to her room on the 3rd floor. They believe that faulty electrical sparked a fire, she was completly passed out while the fire grew, other guest below the 3rd floor got out and a women  above was trapped and went out to her balcony and was screaming for help. Police and firefighters came and began  dousing the fire and rescuing the women on the 4th floor. She was rescued by rope and says on her way down the girl on 3rd fl was still alive and apparently her balcony was locked?. Firefighters took their time getting to the room and by time they calmed the fire and broke through the door the girl had already died from smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen. My details are not all fully correct but when I find the link I will post.

This is soo disturbing. Just shows why America requires a smoke detector to every room, ecspecially in a Hotel.
This is such a sad scene.

I do not know much about vietnamese gov't or know anything along those lines. But could the victims family sue this hotel or no? not to say that any money would replace this girls life.
Extremely sad, the firefighters could of broke down her door first but this did not seem to be their priority.

I guess she lived in Bui Vien where has been announced "can be collapsed any time because it's too old". And seems no house has any back doors

Sad. Always make sure if door on balcony is locked...as many are, that you are able to unlock it in a hurry!!!

We had a house fire where i live, about 7 killometers outside of Nha Trang. By the time the fire brigade arrived there was nothing left of the house. It took them 45 minutes to get here. I dont know why it took them so long. Fortunatly no one was injured.

About half of the Pham Ngu Lao Ward, in HCM - the backpacker slum - has been declared unfit for human occupation. It's the end nearest Cong Quynh.

Part of the problem is that most fire engines, especially the newest, can't get down narrow streets and the few narrow fire units are insufficient for the needs.

Additionally, many of the 'fire hydrants' are dry, as in no water..

VNese electrical 'standards' are pitiful, too. I know one hotel, owned by the city, has ONE circuit breaker for the WHOLE building. Putting a 40 Amp breaker on a circuit feeding a 100 watt lamp isn't too smart!

The hotel - Budget Saigon Hostel - is populated by many people following the VietNam on $10 a Day Budget Plan.

Whenever you check in to a hotel you should walk the fire escape route. One 3* hotel in Hue has nice bright fire exit doors, unfortunately the external fire escape was removed when a new building was constructed next door.

HCM fire engines with ladders cannot reach above the 6th floor.

" she was completly passed out while the fire grew, ", what was she on??? It doesn't sound like a smoke detector would have made much difference in her case, as the screaming girl on the floor below didn't wake her?
