Looking to have Certified Copies of a UK Birth Certificate and a Vietnamese Marriage Certificate notarized in HCMC. Copies of both certificates are required by a Government Department in the UK

Can anyone recommend a Notary Public who would do the job?

Thanks

Since your intended use for the notarized documents is in the UK, would it not be wise to do them at the UK consulate?  Although you may or may not be a UK subject, they should do them if it is clear that the final usage is in the UK.   That is how the US does it.  The US consulate will notarized documents for Vietnamese but only if they are to be sent to the US.  I couldn't see a similar statement on the UK website, but you might want to give it a go anyway.  The UK site says they will do translations too.  Having a notary statement in Vietnamese could mean subsequent translations and other problems.

If they say that they will not provide you notary service as a Singaporean, this page also has a link to local lawyers and translators that they recommend and whose services should presumably be acceptable in the UK.

I was recently chastised for suggesting that someone simply check at the relevant consulate so I hope you will accept my suggestion as made in good faith.   :cheers:

Relax, Thig.
                      ..your chastiser has been chastised.

Looks like the ability to connect-the-dots is an alien concept
across quite a few cultures & countries.   So worry not.

When another denigrates you because they omit information
they only paint an accurate picture of their self.

An 'Asian' who only wants information from other Asians
(on an °µÍø½ûÇø forum..?)     ..sounds a bit suss...     :blink:

The British Consulate in HCMC will not make Certified Copies of the documents in question.

Looking for a recommendation from someone who has used the services of a Notary in HCMC.

As you may know, going from a list of lawyers can be a hit and miss operation.

Any assistance in locating a Notary who will do Certified copies of a UK Document and a Vietnamese Document would be appreciated.

Thanks

For the birth certificate might it not be easier to just order a copy certificate from the General Registry Office?

Looks like you can do this online fairly cheaply and easily

Hi there,

In Vietnam, the documents issued by foreign authorities are not entitled to certitified copy (except passport or such documents sealed by Vietnam Embassy). You should courier UK Birth Certificate to UK for certifying copy.

Regarding Vietnamese Marriage Certificate, this certificate shall be used in UK so it must be:

step 1. certified copy at any People's Committee of any wards or districts in HCMC;
step 2. certified the seal of such District at Department of Home Affairs;
Step 3. certified the seal of such Department at UK consulate (and should be translated in English in this step).

Thank you very much for your advice

I will review what needs to be done and see how it works out

Once again thanks for your precise advice

VN marriage: I was informed that if you marry in Thailand, BKK, you can register this marriage in GB & in VN after the Thai embassy in VN acknowledged  the marriage certificate. There are many information at the net available, also how to divorse :-)

If Hieu is correct, and his post seems knowledgeable, I take some small comfort in being half way right.  Good luck Blunders.
