Tam Thanh at Tam Ky, Quang Nam

OceanBeach92107

Tomorrow I'm headed south from Đà Nẵng for at least a week stay at the nearly-natural beach area of Tam Thanh near Tam Kỳ, south of Hoi An in Quang Nam Province:

I think it was @THIGV who pointed me in the direction of Tam Ky a while back.

I've already driven through the area on Thanh Niên, stopping to view the newly-famous painted murals on houses and walking on the beautiful deserted beach.

If anyone has spent time there, I'd be interested to hear your comments.

Not positive where I'm staying yet, but there are a number of available places in all price ranges.

Here is a video taken from a viewing tower overlooking the natural East Vietnam Sea beach and the nearby Truong Giang River at Tam Thanh, Tam Ky, Quang Nam, Vietnam ()

I'm posting this to the Vietnam Forum because I can't find a way to list it under Quang Nam or Tam Ky.

Keep us posted OB - I'd like to know more about that area myself. Most of that area was listed under a different name during the war and I'd like to be able to associate the two.

Take lots of photos.

I'd also like to know if they speak the Hue or the southern dialect.

I've postponed my trip south indefinitely.

Personal matters.

I'll update this once I make the trip.

Meanwhile, perhaps some others with experience in this area will comment.

I took another day trip there yesterday and made a reservation at the "natural beach resort", an old and worn but clean, peaceful and friendly spot right on the beach, ₫400,000 per night at the weekly rate; cheaper if I stay a month.

This will be my view at breakfast:

Here is a YouTube video of the area, including some brief glimpses of the painted murals on buildings, their local tourist attraction:

Two more YouTube videos of the area, with lots of aerial drone views, including some footage over Tam Ky:

I'm waiting for some recent photos to be approved and I'll link them here.

I spent almost a week there this last week.

I might have stayed longer, but I woke up on the sixth day to no electricity OR water.

I'm going back to the area soon to search more lodging options.

Meanwhile, a few pics:

I had a great time on the beach at Tam Thanh and in Tam Kỳ.

Moving on soon, but I'll likely be back...

OceanBeach92107

Back here in Tam Thanh for an indefinite stay with my partner.

I feel as if we just squeaked in under the Covid Wire.

Driving up here from Quy Nhơn, there wasn't a COVID-19 checkpoint when entering Quảng Ngãi province on QL1A, but Bình Định province has a checkpoint for anyone entering from Quảng Ngãi there.

The most recent report I read said that Bình Định has set up 9 checkpoints for traffic entering the province:

When we reached the Quảng Ngãi/Quảng Nam border, we again didn't see a checkpoint for traffic coming from Quảng Nam into Quảng Ngãi but Quảng Nam had a big tent setup with about 20 people working, taking temperatures and having health declarations filled out on paper by people entering from Quảng Ngãi.

After I passed the temperature test, I went to the women dealing with the paper forms.

I showed her my Ministry of Health phone app QR code for my health declaration.

She glanced at it and asked me if I was a customer in the car.

I said "yes", and she told me I could return to the car while my driver completed the form.

About then, we heard from a British friend in Tam Thanh that their B&B/retreat center and cafe couldn't serve anyone from outside of the village.

So we were fearing being turned away when . (Google Maps link)

However, there wasn't any problem at all.

So we are glad we left Đà Nẵng when we did, and it seems we got out of Quy Nhơn just in time.

All recreational and entertainment places are closed there.

Hội An to the north has beaches closed (along with Đà Nẵng) and both cities have all recreation and entertainment facilities closed, with restaurants limited to takeaway and delivery only.

Tam Kỳ and Tam Thanh are operating normally, so far, except for the isolated report from my British friend.

I hope he's not being singled out because he and his partner are foreigners...??

P.S. I see that the links on some previously posted photos are broken. I'll see if I can post some new ones soon. Meanwhile, (YouTube link)
