Thank you :) I'm really looking forward to arriving, and to meeting new people. I visited Hanoi once on holiday when I was living in Thailand, and the people were really friendly.

Does anyone know of any good social groups/ meet-ups in Hanoi?

Hello Debbie, and welcome.  I believe I ran into one of your compatriots a week or so ago, Eve.  She was staying in the same hotel as I, and seems to have the same job and employer as you. If you know her, please say hi on my behalf.  There is certainly lots do do here, and many good restaurants, etc....and some not so good.  Have fun sorting it all out.

I will look up Internations and go to the next meetup :) sorry Dave, I don't know Eva... but today was my first day so I don't really know many people yet!

Hey Deb,

If you wanna meet up with other °µÍø½ûÇøs, go to places on Xuan Dieu road. I normally go to Tay Tap (quiet and chill atmosphere), Phuc Tan (51 Tu Gian, bit dirty but the music is alright), HRC (on To Ngoc Van, live music and cheap drinks), Hair of the dog (on Ma May street) and Flow bar (somewhere in the old quarter, near Hair of the dog) is alright as well. If you wanna meet up with local Vietnamese ppl, probably go to some street food places near the old quarter... or maybe some others can suggest a few better places, I haven't been out a lot since I came back to Vietnam.

Debbie, i presume you have found The New Hanoian for house hunting (and everything else in hanoi life!) ?
Tay Ho/Au Co and Ngoc Ha are popular areas for westerners (obviously lots of locals around too - more so in Ngoc Ha)
