Need Help Purchasing a Violin

sphung

Hi all,

So I want to learn how to play the violin and I found some shops close by my house in District 3 (off Dien Bien Phu) that are selling violins from 80-100 dollars.

Do any of you know if these are good quality violins? Also, I would like some advice or have someone with me to go shopping. I can pay for lunch/dinner afterwards. Let me know if you want to help out at 0128 344 1418. Thanks everyone.

Stephen

Hi Sphung,

I wish I could be in Saigon so I can help you buy a violin for free. But I can provide you by some tips:
- For the new violin player, buying 80-100USD violin is appropriate. I think it's good enough.
- When buying violin, it also includes the violin archet and the smoother (I don't know how to call this in English, it's a small cheap tool/material making for archet smoothing). The last one is the violin case. Make sure that's violin belongings.
- Other stuff you may need to buy: shoulder rest, music stand

After all, I highly recommend you find a private tutor cause it's really hard to learn violin by yourself. Once you have our own tutor, he/she can go and choose one for you :) Goodluck.

Hi! My name is Adrian Tan, and I'm a conductor from Singapore. I'm conducting the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra for a concert this weekend on 22nd March, 8pm at the HCM Conservatory of Music at Nguyen Du. If you come and say hello to me backstage before/after the concert, I could introduce you to some of my violinists who are professors at the conservatory who can certainly help you!
