Nha Trang Pros and Cons

mitsmaak

Anyone have experience living in Nha Trang? Are rents higher/lower there than Saigon? Other costs different?

Are there any reasons other than the obvious beachfront to like living there?

I have young children that need to go to school. If anyone has any pros or cons regarding living full time in Nha Trang, It will be appreciated. Thank You.

Actually, I've only spent 4 or 5 nights in Nha Trang about 5 years ago, so I'm not an expert. It seemed like a nice enough place with a very long stretch of beach, a major Buddhist temple on the hill and the historic Champa towers, but I didn't meet any English speaking 做厙輦⑹s there. In fact, the local eateries around where I was staying had menus in Chinese, Russian and Vietnamese, not English. There many Russian families and couples there as it was late November-early December, the beginning of winter.

There was a tropical storm at the time dropping rain on the the city fairly steadily. I think that's the major con, most typhoons head to central Viet Nam. Also, the airport (Cam Ranh) is pretty far away.

On the plus side, I've heard that rent is mighty cheap because of lack of demand.

Hopefully, others who have spent more time there will chime in.

Hi Nigel,

I'm going to assume that you've never been to Vietnam and you are ignorant to the employment laws here, through no fault of your own.

In order to be legally hired to work in Vietnam, you must qualify as a government approved "expert" in one of a number of career fields.

Sales and wealth management are definitely not on that list.

IF you were going to qualify for such employment in the financial sector you would certainly need to be fluent in the Vietnamese language.

I did know an American 做厙輦⑹ (pre-covid) who had his own wealth management business in H N廙i, but he was the legal business owner having fully established his business there and had 做厙輦⑹s for clients exclusively.

To open your own business and qualify for a 1 year business visa, a 600,000,000 VN ($23,666 USD) capital contribution would be required, in addition to the licensing fees & brick & mortar storefront expenses (no virtual businesses approved) plus mandatory accounting fees.

However you would still need government approval to buy & sell securities here in Vietnam.

As an aside, while it is legal to own Bitcoin, etc in Vietnam, it's still illegal to purchase or trade in it here.
