Thank you all I appreciate people who want to share and give and if I do live there I will do likewise. I plan to move there I feel it would be a country I can live in because there's not many countries in the world where you can go and be accepted and have to pay a big price for it

....,..I've lived on Islands before for years

....I've been a world traveler for almost 40years... so I think I'll be fine there. ... I chose Bailey's because you've still got great Coral I hear perhaps even better than a Great Barrier Reef now and they've lost nearly half of theirs in the last 20 yrs.

My hope Is I will find some land where I don't feel crowded near the ocean where the weather is more moderate and I can dive the coral reefs offshore without having to use a boat all the time.

Bailey's ? The Irish Cream people ? Rather an odd ad for them....😎

Hi,

I am Jane and myself and my husband David are looking at a possible relocation to Belize, after discovering post Brexit that Golden visas in warmer climbs are now beyond our reach, we had been considering Greek islands.  We are at the stage where we are trying to ell the family home to finance the move, so everything up in the air at the moment and I have had a serious health decline, which means I’m twiddling my thumbs at home alone and craving better weather, which one of our primary reasons for choice of location.  We have 2 dogs travelling with us a golden and a black Labrador.  We are unsure on areas yet and need to plan a visit for a full recce around.

We have previously lived in France for 6 years, where our younger children were educated until my daughter wanted to return to the UK for her medical degree.  We ran gites and a b&b business there so we have some °µÍø½ûÇø experience, although feel relived that a new language wont be on the cards for Belize!  We are looking to research the nuts and bolts, best areas to live in, do we buy a left hand drive here and import, who are good freight shippers and what is worth bringing and what are we better to buy there, what are internet connections like, are there some areas that are hit worse for the occasional bad weather.

I’m urge just browsing though everybody’s past questions will give us a lot of information, but know that reputations and businesses do change and more recent advice might be needed.

Looking forward to catching up with people soon,

Jane

Hi Jane, my name is Frank and my life is Laurie.  We are both US citizens in our 80's  When we started looking in Belize, language was a big consideration.  Also, we like the hills as opposed to the shore.  My son and I came down about 10 years ago and spent two weeks traveling around the country.  Of everything we saw, we liked Cayo best.  We made an offer on a piece okf land and it was acce[ted.  Took almost 2 years to get clear title.  We are in the village of San Antonio with 37 acres right on to[p of a hill.  Built a home over about 4 years time and now have everything we need when we come here.  We now spend a month, twice a year here.  Best advice, take your time.  Nothing happtcherens quickly here so patience is not only a virtue but an absolute necessity.  We lived in England for a couple of years in the late 80's.  Really understand why you are interested in the tropics!  Best of luck. Dear Frank, Thank you so much for your kind advice; we are currently thinking whilst doing our research to get the house sold here and then look at a rental in Belize so we can take out time exploring and finding the right location.  Sounds like you have a slice of paradise with what you have achieved.  I love the beach but my husband loves the trees and quiet so we night have some difficult choices.  If you are living inland and want to go down to the coast for the day is it easy to park?  Enjoy your next trip, Jane

In fact we are currently enjoying a trip right now.  Been hee almost 3 weeks and another week to go before returning.  We have not been to the beach where most go.  Ambergris Quay is the most popular spot--an island off Belize City.  It's usually reaached by ferry or air.  Placencia is a good bit further south but is really nice and far less expensive, but even it is going up rapidly on price.  I really prefer being able to look off my back porch at the mountains toward Guatamala or to the south to the beautiful Mountain Pine Ridge area.  Renting first is a very good idaa. Guido Hector Mar (Grupa Mar Realty) in Santa Elena is a friend and trusted contact if you want to take a look at Cayo.  Look him up on the internet.  Tell him I referred you.
