My suggestions..... Caye Caulker, San Ignacio and Punta Gorda. Caye Caulker is a true island paradise and really where I wanted to live, just never could swing the right land deal. And being an island things are more expensive there. San Ignacio is a total gem, jungle environment but great shops and places to eat, right on the Guatemala border. Punta Gorda, where I ended up buying property, is definitely more of a backwater place but has the advantage of lower prices due to that. If you are looking to buy land with an eye towards increasing value there are a variety of types available. I bought a couple of acres of jungle land just outside of town at a very nice price
