realistic rent and school opinion

ztaceasda

Hi,
I am excited to say I am glad to be on this forum and that I am moving down from the US.  I would like to know the realistic opinion to rent a modest 2 or 3 bedroom apartment year round.  also I would like to know what I would need to do to educate my 9 year old daughter in Belize who has dyslexia?
thanks all and see you soon!

Hello ztaceasda and welcome to °µÍø½ûÇø.

You can post an advert in the section Housing in Belize. It can be useful.

All the best,

Hello there!  I'm not there yet...will be in Dec!!!   From what I have r3esearched, the housing just depends on where you land. and as for the schools, I plan to home school my 9 yr old grandson who will be there with us at least thru the school year. Check out your county or school districts programs...they can be free and you can keep up with their curiculum.  I'm SOOO excited!!!

Hi Catherine! I think I already privately messaged you, but check out my company's website for rental houses to give you an idea of the rates, primarily in Cayo - google Red Roof Property Management Belize (sorry, not allowed to post links here).

Thanks, Sharon!

ztaceasda Some people opt for homeschooling, you did not mention what part of Belize you are considering. If it is Ambergris Caye check out Island Academy School. Not sure on dyslexic and if they have extra tutoring for that. [I am dyslexic too and remember doing extra classes to help get through it]

When and to where will you be moving?  There are several excellent school on Ambergris Caye, but  a couple of them are already filling their classes for next year, so you may want to telephone interview the schools and reserve your daughter's place. Top picks are ACES (ambergris Caye elementary), Island academy, Isla Bonita.  All 3 have facebook pages.  ACES has an excellent special needs reputation and the principal, Denise Ryan, can be contacted at 011-501-226-2226.

The Blog "a king's life" has an good summary budget estimate for Ambergris Caye.

Ambergriscaye.com is the local message board and an excellent resource for information and contacts for most questions about living on the island. Amanda Syme and Shorelinesolutions are two local relators who are wonderful, professional and just good people.

Travel safe and Best of luck

I realize your post is a year old but I felt compelled to reach out.  My son is a classified student with aphasia (a communication disorder).  I am retiring next year and we are coming to Belize.  I do not want him to grow up in the hustle bustle materialistic American culture.  Has your experience with your daughter been positive?  I would really like to hear more about your experience.

For those who are home schooling kids that are high school age there is a new development on the island. They are starting a monitored classroom format for kids who are participating in the home school system in Belize.
