Pet Import Permit

Hi we are planning on spending the winter in Corozal and have a small yorkie we are bringing with us.

We have sent the papers for our import permit to the BHA both via email on August 28 and fax on September 5th. We leave on October 15th just wondering how long it usually take to get a permit emailed back? And if we do not receive one by the time we leave what would should we do?

You should hear back from BAHA within 7 days.聽 Since you have not, you should email them or call them back.聽 And make sure they fax you back a copy of the permit.聽 You should have a copy of that as well as the International Vet Certificate when you arrive in Belize as the BAHA inspection officials often conveniently lose the paperwork.聽 If you have it with you, as we did, you can ensure that you won't have to pay extra for the lost paperwork!

We also did not get our permit back without a follow-up email, but that did the trick.聽 Also make sure to email 48 hours ahead of your flight letting them know when you will be coming (flight #, etc.)

I'm new to the forum and currently traveling down through Mexico to Belize. We have our dog with us and I realise I don't know what paperwork is needed for his entry into the country.
We brought him with us from England in September into the USA and he has a pet passport and rabies certificate.聽 Do we need anything else?聽

I am not sure if the pet passport changes the need for an international vet certificate and the Baha approval.聽 You should inquire of Baha at the email address above in the thread to verify.

If a Baha approval permit is required, you will need to wait until you receive the permit approval after filling out the form and before entering Belize.聽聽聽
