New members of the Costa Rica forum, introduce yourselves here - 2022
Hello everyone, glad to be part of this group. My wife, daughter and I are looking to move to CR in the next 2 years. Looking in the Samara area. We're wanting a laid-back, less touristy area. Heading to explore Guanacaste in Aug and hopefully find our place.
@thurpa Guacanaste is a very touristic area, the whole Nicoya. If you want to avoid tourists go to Osa or in the mountains.
@Henrych, thanks for the advice. We'll put Osa on our 'places to explore' list

@Julien hello. I am moving to Guanacaste Costa Rica in 2024 and have specific questions about pets there. Does anyone here know about buying different pets once I get to Costa Rica ? From what I understand I will not be allowed to have turtles but I am unclear on pet birds ? any information will be appreciated.

Good morning!
My name is Brayden and I’m from San Antonio, Texas. Beginning September 25th, my wife and I will be living in Costa Rica for about 6 weeks as she participates in a Spanish immersion program. We are very excited to be there – we’ve both been there in the past and we’re thrilled to be going back.
We moved to the beautiful Southern Zone in 2007 and we love it here! While we were building our house we searched all over, but were really challenged to find any suitable furniture for our new home in the humid south - so, we decided open a local furniture store!
I was a designer back home so knew about furniture and design, and thought it would be a great way to meet other people, help them with their homes – and furnish our place! So, we took early retirement and made the permanent move to CR with a 5-year plan!
Well, that worked really well and we and quickly became part of the community and made many wonderful new friends, and our investment also fast-tracked our residency!
Since then the business has grown in leaps and bounds and is now located in Uvita, the commercial center of the area, and it furnishes homes from Atenas in the north down to Golfito and beyond! The part-time hobby turned onto a full-time job!
If you have a dream, research it well, and if it makes sense – just do it!
Or, you could step into the shoes of a fellow adventurer and buy a business, research it well, and take it to the next level!
15 years later I am really ready to retire now, so this highly successful and profitable business is for sale. The south pacific zone is one of the fastest growing areas in Costa Rica. The store has a great location, wonderful and capable staff, beautiful inventory, and offers an immediate income.
Let me know if you have questions about business ideas, or if you want to know more about this one!
If this is a serious question, we should talk. Perhaps not the house - I still need somewhere to live...  However, buying the business and being connected to all our great suppliers, meeting our clients and working in a beautiful, air conditioned store is not too shabby! A great way to make new friends and earn a decent living by helping people is a perfect fit for someone who also enjoys furniture and decorating. The store is leased from a great landlord in the center of town. You can buy the whole commercial center if you have ambition. He wants to retire too! We know what running a business in CR is like - I am happy to share....

Hello, please note that such an advert should be posted in the Costa Rica classifieds as there is a dedicated category for business for sale.
Best of luck,

Hi all, I'm Larry from Jaco about 2 yrs. on and off. As I see others are having bumps in the road when dealing with local banks (BCR).
As a residential owner I was able to obtain an account, but have been locked out for over a month. I finally got the Clave Virtual card but cannot find an English tutorial.
Anyone seen one, would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Hi everyone, my name is Anneke. I’ve grown up living across different continents and I’m now looking to settle down somewhere and Costa Rica is on my list. At this stage, I’m most interested in getting a sense of the demographic and cultural differences in different areas to narrow down the places to see when I visit in the next few months. If someone knows which forum would be best for that that would be great! Thanks
Does anyone still use this thread as last entry from April 27, 2022?
Curious about remote jobs or potential connections with environmental scientist positions and/or environmental consulting companies in Costa Rica. Thanks in advance!

@Julien I live in Costa Rica for 3 plus years and return ever year or so to visit my Tico family. I love the culture, people, country and climate. I am looking to start a business to support me permanently. I have several ideas for different businesses; salsas, off grid biogas production for cooking and electrical generators, small scale hydro electric generators for home use and solar electricity and battery storage. Looking for investors. My number in the US ***
Reason : Contact details should not be posted on the open forum. Thank you
We invite you to read the forum code of conduct
Jefferey......The looking for investors post, comes off as an old scam......It is one of the tragic legacies for Costa Rica, foreigners putting out these $lures$. The 1980's with jojoba-bean,1990's teak farms, the early 2000's with post 9-11 cheap living and bank financed real estate.....All debacles and now you !
How do I reach out with my ideas ? This not a scam. I have lived in Costa Rica and have several ideas to help out others to generate income. I have contacts there to validate my legitimacy. I am sorry if I came off wrong, insulted anyone or violated forum rules. The social and economic climate in the United States has been taking tragic down turn and I miss my time and friends in Costa Rica. My ideas will help communities to generate their own electricity and gas and benefit the environment. Please contact me if you have further questions.
Jeffrey.......The problem is you want to use the money of others, like so many before you,who took so many lambs to financial slaughter.
I am not looking to slaughter anyone.  I am looking to farm land to grow tomatoes, garlic and chili. With this me and my wife will produce and distribute the salsa to restaurants and markets.  Most of the investments will be labor. I lived there previously and know many people have property to grow produce on and a place to temporarily house someone willing to help around the estate with repairs and cleaning.  I have never used money of others or their labor to my benefit. I am looking for someone who sees potential in a small business that could bloom into so much more. If things don't work out they will lose nothing. I am hard working and intelligent.  I have only mentioned to one of many ideas I have to invest in the local economy.  I have spoken to many that love Costa Rica but wish there was more spicy food.  I cannot change or wish to change Costa Rican culture, only add a little spice. I had some businesses and business owners try my salsas and loved them. If only you could try them with the local chicharrones (the best in all central and North America) you might change your mind about me and my wife's passion.  My salsas elevate your dishes to another level with will increase profits to any business.  I understand your point and have seen millionaires and billionaires prosper and close businesses, write off the loss while hard working people suffer (Donald Trump). I retired at 43 to Costa Rica but unfortunately those handling my investments and in general the stock market and banking establishment failed us all. I was forced to return to work back in United States.  I am at my age stronger of mind than body. I know I can with my products and ideas make money for others and myself. I hope you can reconsider your opinion of me and consider my ideas. It only takes 1 seed on the right soil to grow a dream. I love Costa Rica and wish to return and someday retire there. I am a dreamer and Costa Rica is my dream.

@lyndsaywebbHello, how are you? The best recommendation is the southern area of the COSTA Osa, there are very beautiful places with rivers and beaches for fishing and many more things. Anything I am available to help you, I have beautiful properties for sale by their owners.
