Moving to the D.R.

Nanosaso

Anyone out there know and or have experience with how to make a smooth move from US.

What items should you bring and which do you leave behind and sell.

Are there any fees or taxes that may be waived for 1st time import of household goods and vehicle?

Any specific details one should be aware of?

Thank you

I suggest you read the  thread about residency.  It has all the info about how to move here legally,  what  benefits there are and how to do it.

As Planner said, there are many threads here about residency and shipping. In those threads, you can look for my comments. We moved from the US with residency, shipping in a container of household items duty-free, and with reduced import duty on our vehicle.

@ planner Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, appreciated.

@ddmcghee Thank you for your comments. It is very good info and good to know. I'll be looking into the thread to get familiar with the process. Thanks again for your helpful input.

@ddmcghee Could you please point me to some of those threads?  I am not sure how to use the search in this forum.  Thanks!

@rellosk - if you look up towards the top right of the forum page, next to your Avatar I think it's called??, you'll see the little magnifying glass which is the search function. You can type in residency, shipping, etc., and you'll find a ton of information. The people on this forum are really generous about sharing information and I'm sure it will give you a good starting point. :-)
