Each certified translator and company can have their own rates. They can charge by page or by word count. They can offer聽 volume discounts. So, in a word, I do not know if you were over charged.

I think that price is too high, especially for the legalization. Cancilleria is about $700 pesos per page. Find a local lawyer, someone you can trust, and they will have someone that can do the translations. I've paid $2000 pesos per page and was never charged on the type of document, just per pages. Good luck.

Just for clarity, you had US certified translations which were not accepted? Did you also have the translations apositilled?

i was told by the US dominican consulate that all papers had to be translated by a dominican.聽

FWIW, "certified" is not the same thing as "official" for diplomatic/visa purposes; to be "official" the translator has to be credentialed by the government requiring the documents (the DR in this case). You can find a little bit of information for the US context on the DR embassy website here:

Sadly, they do not post a list of accepted translators.

The individual consulates' websites are not functional. The consulate in DC (ie the embassy's consular section) charges $95/page for translations 馃樀鈥嶐煉� but that includes the cost of apostille.

This doesn't solve anything but it might explain some of the price variation. I'm still trying to figure the rest out myself. (I know this thread is old but maybe the info will come in handy for someone down the line ...)
