Shipping EV to DR

Neil st surin

I want to ship my 2014 Tesla to DR. The rule is that cars can't be more than 5 years old. The rule is for ice vehicles for emission purposes. So if you have a car with no emissions does that rule still apply? I also read that there are different rules for heavy vehicles with usually apply to trucks and multi-passenger vehicles which allow up to 15 years old. Which my Tesla would qualify for since it's heavier than a standard pickup truck.

excellant question , something for me to consider also. In california, the used tesla market is great. they are giving them away practically. I would love to hear what the verdict is for 100% electric. BTW, I have seen 2 Rivian vehicles here. it really suprised me. a Truck and a SUV. There will be more electric vehicles coming here as time moves on.

This is a great topic.

I understand there are lower custom/import rates for an electric vehicle.  Does anyone know exactly how much savings there are in importing an electric vehicle into the DR ?

I would like to know if you bring an electric vehicle in with you under your residency one time cargo container,  would there be double savings, one for being that the car is an electric vehicle, and the other for being able to bring a car in under your residency package ?

If there is no double savings, would it even matter if you owned the vehicle for less than a year, because of bringing in an electrical car ?

Having an electric vehicle that possess the ability of bidirectional charging, along with a solar powered villa, what a winning combination this would be in the DR.

Saw this post not sure if one should investigate

U.S. Ports not accepting shipment of EVs (Electric Vehicles)

I'm in the process of moving to the Dominican Republic and bought a Tesla a couple months ago. Well recently I have been advised by two different shipping companies that the United States have halted the shipments of electric vehicles, yet these vehicles are being made outside of the United States. Quite frustrating for going green and the U.S. government wants everyone to eventually switch an electric vehicle. My only option is to sell!

There is currently no exception to the 5 year rule! Sorry
