What visa should i get?

EthanM

Hello, I'm planning to move to the DR for a minimum of 6 months. I'm wondering what kind of visa i should apply for. I will be working while I'm down there but, not for a Dominican company. I will be teaching English online for an international company. Can I still apply for a work visa?

I would not apply for a work visa and have to get involved in DR taxes. If only 6 months just pay the overstay fee when you leave.

I agree with Bob. Come on a tourist visa and pay the overstay fine when you leave.

EthanM

Thanks for the advice! I had a question about the residence visa. So once you apply for residency you are allowed to stay in DR until your case is processed?

Bob K

I imagine so but the cost will be MUCH more than paying the overstay fees.

Yes once you go thru process and apply you receive a file number. That will do you until your residencia is issued.

EthanM

Well for now I'm staying 6 months. However my goals is to move there. So, I will have to start my residency once I get there.

Then to be clear your residencia starts BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. Make sure to check out the thread about residencia.

There is also a thread about overstay fines.
