Welcome back.

Current rules: come on a 30 day tourist card and go online to extend for a total of 120 days.

That does not allow you to work here legally.

A work visa needs a company here to sponsor you and hire you. Then the process starts at home with you gathering required documents and requesting a work visa at the closest Dominican consulate.

We don't have any special programs for digital nomads.  Who know if that is being considered!

How about opening your own company and can that grant me legal residence

tektonac

Also does visa run work

Interesting thread.  Following

If you invest $200k in a Dominican business (it can be one you start), then you can apply for residency as an Investor.

You can contact Lily Baez (immigration attorney extraordinaire!) at 809.860.1231 to get the details on pursuing this path.

any cheaper options

If you can show a 5-year history of $2000 per month in passive income (rent/dividends/etc.) or $1500 per month in pension income, you can apply that way.

Everybody that buys a plane ticket gets an tourist Visa, you are looking for a Residency Visa, which is way different.  I suggest contacting the recommended lawyer and asking a few questions, see what options you have.  It helps to have a DR lawyer at the very beginning of the Resisidency process, which starts in your home country. And for what it's worth, if you are looking to cut cost and corners at the very beginning of this, you might want to re-examine your plan to move and work here to see if it is actually sustainable.

Unfortunately there are no cheaper options.  You can come here and open a company but you cannot work in or for that company.

We don't  have any other way to be here and work legally.

Your only other option is illegal.  That is your call.

A visa run will make your stay here legal but you still cannot work legally.

tektonac

Marriage ?

tektonac

Not cutting costs and corners, more like in a hurry. I have no need for work, coz I carry my work with me. My home country is imposing an enormous taxes on teleworkers, so I am looking for a way to stay here legally with my family. If I were alone, nomadic life would not be a problem, but I am married and have an 18 month son and I don't want to separate from my family. I need a place to stay and to make home. No need for job, social security and other BS, just home. everything else I have

planner

Married to a Dominican gets you residencia via family reunification.

Is your wife Dominican?

tektonac

No, but I am willing to make that sacrifice

planner

Then that is an option. But be careful!  Understand what you are getting into.

ddmcghee

You said you are married and have a child, but you're considering marrying a Dominican to get residency??

One thing to keep in mind is that if you work here, regardless of who you work for (i.e. working remotely for a company in another country), you will owe income tax here.

planner

If you work here legally you need the find out if there is a tax treaty with your country of origin.

tektonac

That part is not the problem
