New members of the Dominican Republic forum, introduce yourselves here - 2022
Hi everyone!
My name is Emily Jimenez. I live in Miami, but my parents are both from Higuey, Dominican Republic.
I purchased an apartament in the Punta Cana area (El cortcito) and I am currently remodeling it to make it nice so that I can start spending more time in the country. Happy to be join this community!
Hola Mi Gente!!
Currently tapping into the equity of our NY home for purchase of hopefully NEW BUILD. Any suggestions on property attorneys/abogados(as).
And can anyone share their pics of classic house style/Campo Style, not sure what we want but will feature modern setups.
Also just saw the VISA/Residency post today (I'm sure it's an older post) just curious if we need before signing contracts/buying. How does one get residential status with DOMINICAN born parents? Any benefit for process?
Sorry to dump so many questions, new to forums and looking forward for all the great input.
Hubby & I will be selling home here in NY in about 5 years (when he retires) both kids will be out of college by then and we will certainly be empty nester. Looking for all the help we can get. We're looking to build in El Valle, Samana
Hello to all !!
Joined Forum back in June 2021. My wife and I have been planning to retire in the Dominican Republic for some time now. We bought a condo in Punta Cana which because of covid completion date has changed and will probably be completed in April. We have property in the mountain area of Rio San Juan and stared building our home there. we have found this forum very useful as we planned our move here. I was able to prepare for us as far as banking, residency, construction, medical services and many other helpful topics. At this point in our journey have have taken alot from the forum and hope to contribute in the future and possibly contribute and help with info as we have been helped so much by the forum.

I know the country well from my many visits over the years and have some local Dominican friends … but I so appreciate all the additional great insight and tips on these forums from all of you — muchas gracias! It’s been so helpful.
Anyone in the Bavaro area? I’d love to meet up with anyone who is available for a cafecito or cerveza this week to connect with neighbors and hopefully soon-to-be new friends! Thursday this week would be ideal, si Dios quiere

I know I do not have a lot of information to contribute, but one day soon I hope to. In the process of buying a house and having work done on it. This process gives new meaning to "Island Time." Greetings to you all,
I am retired and raising 2 young ladies. I have a son but he is of age. I recently purchased some land in the DR, El Choco, Sosua. My plans are to build my dream home after my baby girl graduates from high school in 4 years. I have been to different parts of the island on multiple occasions. Anyone looking to purchase property I can only direct down the path I used and so far I’ve had no issues. Glad to meet new folks all the time.
Welcome to the forums John! Please keep us updated as you work your plan. Lots of info in the various forums for you as well!
Hello all!
My husband and I are just starting the planning process in moving to the DR!!
So excited to have found this forum and can’t wait to read all the amazing posts I’m seeing!
Welcome from a newbie too !
Greetings, all...
My wife, Carrie, and I are looking at retiring in the DR, likely the north coast, when I hit early retirement age in a few years. We've loved our visits to the DR so far and are planning a trip in September where we can putter up and down the coast to see what area feels the best to us. We have always been ones who have done a lot of our own canning and even talked about living off grid, so we might even be looking for something really rural, as long as we're not too far from the beaches. We are, after all, addicted to them.
There are still some things we need to figure out, the biggest of which is probably my adult son with disabilities. They're more cognitive and developmental than physical, but we need to figure out what that looks like for him in the DR. We welcome any DMs about the topic...
Glad to be here! We've already learned so much in a short time...
Welcome to the forums! Regarding your son I would start a thread about what is available here in terms of help.
Lots of other info here, as you are finding out!
While visiting and Exploring take a look at El Valle, Samana it is amazing, up and coming but Still very remote and you'll find more s calling it home.
Good day everyone,
Our family is exploring the possibility of purchasing a condo in the Las Terrenas area. Hopefully we can glean some insights from the people on here and we will do our best to add whatever we can in return.
Thanks!
Welcome to the forums. You will find a ton of info here. What you don't find, just ask! We are a pretty friendly group.
@LovetheDR - Welcome to the forums! We're in Las Terrenas, so don't hesitate to PM if you have some specific questions about LT.
Welcome,
We too are doing our homework to purchase a condo or villa in the Dominican Republic, specifically in the greater Punta Cana area. Scheduled to be intown 4/22. To date I have not found a service like the MLS so I have gone from talking to one realtor to talking to four people. It is to the point I almost won't have a conversation without taking notes as I am afraid some of the conversations just mix and match in my head and that does not help anyone. Bobby

Hi guys,
I am Andrei. 55 years old. Lithuanian. Living in The Netherlands. I have been working in logistics more than 10 years. Learning programming(JavaScript). My wife and I are planning to move in DR. We are excited about it. I am wondering if I can find a job in DR with no Spanish.
Welcome Andrei. You will find the answer to this in the forums. We have covered this type of question often. Feel free to open a thread to ask your specific question if you like!
Welcome, I dot know the answer to your question. However I am 64 and just started learning Spanish via Babble. I believe speaking Spanish or evening trying to speak Spanish will open peoples hearts and minds and in that way you will increase your chance of finding work and making new friends. No matter what you chose I wish you luck.
Bobby

My wife & I are seriously considering a move to La Romana from S. Florida with our 9-year old. I’ve had a connection to the DR since I was very young, and my wife loves the country too. We’re headed down to start investigating the reality of ExPat life there next week.

Welcome, Josh!
During your visit next week, try to connect with families in the area and try to visit the schools. That should be one of your key considerations since you will most likely want to send her to a private school. You will find some existing threads about schools, but I'm not sure if any were specific to La Romana. Feel free to open a new thread to solicit opinions from other parents.

Welcome to the new members! Thank you for introducing yourselves!

Hello . . . Again!
Hello, everyone. I'm finally back after 13 months away. Not by choice -- something killed my account, and I had difficulties obtaining assistance to fix.
Finally got reset in late February, and today I realized should probably do a "new menber" post.
I go by Jim, and my handle on .com is Rusher. My wife's name is Lisa and we're from Idaho (so you can probably figure out what brings us here ).
I am retired with a modest pension, and our intent is to snowbird here every year for 2-4 months.
We happen to be here as I write this -- we're on a swing starting from Santo Domingo. Been to La Romana, Punta Cana/Bavaro and ARE NOW IN LAS TERRENAS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
We will also work up the coast to Cabrete, Cabrera, Puerto Plata and end in Santiago. Then my wife returns home and I stay for another month looking for properties.
We are now looking for an investment property on the North Coast, and also trying to figure out where we'd like to snowbird for longer periods starting in Jan 2023.
>> If you have any recommendations or contacts to meet, I'd appreciate receiving a private/direct message from you. Or you can call me at the DR number below.
Oh, BTW, we.obtained our DR residency in Mar 2021 and Just completed our first (1 year) renewal in SD.
>> WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND LISHALI BAEZ AS THE GO-TO immigracion abrogada!!!
>> We think the world of Lishali, as I discussed in many posts in my previous incarnation of .com.
>> I think most of those posts have been lost/deleted, so I'll try to recreate a few explaining why we esteem Lishali so highly.
Okay, that's enough for a reintroduction
My best to all of you,
Jim Rodgers
