Guatemalan Organic Farming

MichelParaguay

Good morning all

Here is some information about Guatemalan organic farming.

According to AgenceBio.org, in Guatemala,
- the area cultivated organically was 13,380 hectares in 2011;
- the number of organic farms was 3,008 in 2010.

"According to the ministry, in 2020 Guatemala has an area of 200,140 hectares duly certified organic. 10 years ago (2010), this area was 95,000 hectares."

" It is estimated that 98% of organic products are destined for the international market. In other words, for the domestic market only 2%. The United States (80%), the European Union (15%), Japan (3%), Canada and other countries (2%) approximately represent the foreign market. The main exported products are coffee, allspice, cardamom, bananas, plantains, sugar cane, cocoa, legumes, macadamia, ramon seeds, chicozapote latex, leaves of savila, tea and stevia, Rivera said. "

In Guatemala, is it possible to buy products every week from Guatemalan organic producers who sell their products on the international market ?

Thank you.

Yours truly.

Hello, I ask myself the same question but I haven't found the answer yet. I hope an 做厙輦⑹riate can give us some information on this subject. :)

I know there is a store in Antigua that sells certified organic, I know this because I was going to sell some of my mangos there but got tired of filling out the 20 pages of paperwork to get certified. Can't remember the name of the place though. If you want organic mangoes I have those in season (March to June).
