I am 62 year old ex TV producer who needs a beautiful stress free environment to heal from a nasty divorce.  I do not want to live in a hut and would prefer cable TV, internet and a furnished apt with kitchen, and a few °µÍø½ûÇøs around to talk to once and awhile...but i want to feel safe.
Guatemala keeps coming up on my searches and the Lake Atitlan area looks beautiful.
I'd like to come visit for 6 weeks or so and see if this lifestyle would suit me.
I'm looking for suggestions on what areas to check out, where to stay when I arrive, approx, costs for what I'd like.  Please post or email me at alanplotkin@hotmail.com.

Thank you in advance for all that respond with suggestions.

Understood, I retire from an extremely stressful job and was looking for the same as you. I started in Guatemala(Xela)but I have to say it's nice but way to cold for me. I traveled to the Peten where nature rules prefect to unwind however it's very very hot and it is a bit violent there. From there to Antigua (Cuidad Vieja)PREFECT!! The weather is great, I live in a big house with prefect views of then 3volcanoes. Everything is very quite here and great to unwind. I also lived in Costa Rica, Honduras and El Salvador but wound up here again, To Stay. Good Luck

Living myself in Lake Atitlan since 23 years I can tell you that it is a great place to distress and have a great life style. There is not need to live in a hut, I do a lot of rentals and I have all kind of houses..
Cable Tv is mostly in the villages but you can get satellite dish with Hughes for example.
Life is cheap you can rent a good house for under $ 600 and food and services are very affordable.
Pass by to see me in Panajachel  Calle Santander, Comercial San Rafael Local 4
Saludos

Funnyone (Alan), I am also enroute to Guatemala for most of the same reasons -- need a safe, peaceful, happy life. Something that is not available in the USSA anymore. Seems like Antigua would be the spot and that is my plan. I also am not interested in a hut lol The fresh air, fresh non-gmo foods, and no chem trail spraying are reason enough to give it a good try. Keep us posted on how it goes for you. I am hoping to be following soon :)
