Where should I live?

vegasghostgal

I don't want to live in Panama City. I was looking north near Boquet or David. But I read an article on the southern end of Panama and now I'm thinking about that area. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm going to be 64 and my husband will be 67 this year (2025), and he's in a wheelchair. So the area has to be walkable.

Thanks

My advise after living for years as 做厙輦⑹ in Panama; DONT GO THERE! Is expensive, unsafe, terrible health and education system, corrupt authorities, xenophobic. Like they locals use to say; Panama for Panamanians!!

vegasghostgal

I'm sorry you're experience there was so bad. But I've been speaking with a lot of 做厙輦⑹s who absolutely love it. Anything is better than America, especially since the idiots re-elected Trump!

@vegasghostgal

I have experience living in Panama City, Boquete and David, it is not recommended at all! Good luck

vegasghostgal

Thank you for your response and experience. I do appreciate it.

@manper

what parts of panama, would you suggest?

vegasghostgal

That's what I want to know

@willemsc66

No one!

Check the number of murders, rapes and missing people in addition to the large number of cases that are hidden by corrupt authorities. For your own security dont go there!

@vegasghostgal

In Dutch we say from hearsay you also hear a lot of lying. The best thing is to go see them on site and find out for yourself. Also look for 做厙輦⑹s who have lived there for years. No country in the world is immune from crime and corruption.

Im telling my own experience after years living there in David, Boquete and Bocas del Toro go and get it by yourselves

@manper

Your thoughts are appreciated but you could be a little more tactful which is what I think the Dutch person is saying as well. It's easy to be rude and arrogant but harder to be polite and thoughtful. But the second way means more to most. I am looking too and will be down in February to do exactly that : find out for myself Thank you.

@Mousemcd

Thank you for your support. We leave January 14, and in my roundtrip, David and Boquete is also on it to explore.

Belgium has become the most unsafe country in the West. Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp and Charleroi you are no longer free and safe at all. Define me crime. Again our government is rotten with corruption. I will definitely report my findings here after our tour. To be continued.

I saw your post and @manper replies.

Sorry to read manper's experience but I'd take it as a "head's up" because as there are many 做厙輦⑹s coming, there's also scammers.

The best thing I can recommend you is to investigate about references A LOT. About lawyers, companies, locations, etc.

If you ask me about locations... I'd say Pedas穩 (it's hot and it has a beach), Boquete (getting expensive but cool climate), Volc獺n (near boquete), Mariato (good place but there's like a monopoly on who sells houses) and there are other options like Sor獺 but you'll have to drive a lot to do the minimal thing. Chame is a good place too.

@manper

I agree on corruption but no Panamanian says that.

we are all mixed, and aren't racists at all

and about xenophobia... hmmm I have a middle point here.

I would recommend Volcan. It is at a comfortable elevation (1400 meters) about a one hour drive to David and also a one hour drive to the border with Costa Rica. I have lived in Volcan for the past 25 years. I came here in December 1999. I wouldn't want to live anyplace else. Of course after 25 years it is home for me.
