L Card Application Antwerp -

dakbak

Hello All,

I have completed 5 Years on Feb 27 and submitted my L card application Online on 2nd May. I live in Antwerp.

I got to know that Ususally it wll take 5 months plus 1 day we can expect the approval status ( though there are cases where it is delayed by commune even further).

I havent received any Annex 16bis and I am checking the tracker from Antwerp to know which dated file they are currently handling from the below site. As of today(6 June), they are processing 31st Jan applications., Lag of 5 months.

So in my case, it will be Opened either in July end or August ( ~ 5 months) and then i have to wait for 5 more months waiting for the approval status.

Why there is such a delay, online is used to make work easier :) . In other commune, at lease if i had got the appoinment for submitting, i would have been in the Processing waiting time and not wait for file to be opened.

Any other people experiencing the long wait in Antwerp, if so how long are you waiting?

Yes, I understand you and feel sorry. This situation is fundamentally wrong, and I honestly don’t understand how such a huge backlog is possible. If there’s a staff shortage, they could just hire more people — so it’s clear this delay is artificial. Even in Brussels, I checked a couple of random communes, and the appointment wait time is about two weeks.

In Antwerp, two far-right anti-immigration parties are in power, so unfortunately it’s not surprising. It’s also telling that the delays only exist in Loket Migratie — in all other departments there are no such queues.

I live in a city with 80k people and a large suburban population, governed by centrists, and here you can still get an appointment for an L card (or any residence card) even for today.

My only advice for the future: try to apply a bit before your 5-year is completed — not after.

Cheers
