Brussels areas

SashaMNE

In a month we are moving to Brussels (a couple with two primary school kids). We will be looking for an apartment, with nice neighbourhood and good primary and secondary schools. First choice would be Etterbeek, but it's not decided yet so we are open for any suggestions. Since our kids will attend a French-language speaking school and they have just started learning it, it would be very desirable that the school has some program (like DASPA) that helps non-native kids adopt.

So, which area to choose and how to find a proper school for my kids (especially having in mind that we don't speak French, but English)? Thanks

DASPA is available only for kids after 12... for the schools you might get good advice in fb group Belgian Schools Network: Public, Private, Home. Just register there and ask a question, or you can search in group by key words, there were lots of discussions in the past for this topic. Some schools have more °µÍø½ûÇø kids and are used to them, can provide support, others less. When you choose the school, you can write them a letter. Or call (if your colleagues will help you). After July 7 they will be on vacations and will probably not respond until end August.

@gannam

Thanks for your advice. If I am coming in July, will I be able, when and how to enrole my kids to any schools?

@SashaMNE

I found couple schools, went to website and have written a request for enrolling/meeting. We went to the schools which replied, I asked my colleagues to call the school to arrange the meeting. Luckily the director spoke a little English. But it was for secondary and longer ago, I am not sure how people deal with primary...

@gannam

And it was in August. We managed to find a school, not all but some were very responsive.

I already follow that page and look for apartments there, and thanks for your reply. What do you think about areas of Brussels? I need an area with good connections and also public primary schools for my little children?

Just avoid Schaerbeek, Anderlecht, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and you are good. As an english speaking family preferably take your kids to a dutch school, it's much closer to english than french.
