I understand that Bulgaria (and Romania) became full Schengen members in January and agreed that checks would still be in place at land borders until July 2025.

What difference has it made? Are there still barriers / checking booths in place or a car drivers able to drive straight through now?

Drove to romania last week, no border checks, just toll over ruse bridge crossing to pay.

The checkpoints at bridge are unmanned, random checks on vehicles though once over bridge.

Seen a story about Ruse getting a boost from Romanians coming over.

"Since Bulgaria and Romania fully joined Europe's Schengen open-borders zone last year, the border city of Ruse has seen a marked increase in Romanian tourists." .

I imagine the northern black sea resorts might have a lot tourists this year.
