like you I've had enough lol been to BG a few time looking at property in last 2 yrs and looks like we'll settle in the Veliko Tarnovo area which has a lot of ex pats in the surrounding villages we plan to go for good in about May when I get early retirement from work. Yes I think the language could be difficult to learn but most younger bulgarians do speak english

Im looking at this area now, looks great! is there an airport there yet or is Varna the nearest. I hope to get out to BG mid April and have a look, any advice on airlines?

Burgas would be nearest although VT is about midway between Sofia and Burgas. Varna has no international flights.I'm in Scotland and found that Balkan Airways the only carrier flying direct from here and only in summer.I think it will be the same from England. Alternative is to fly via Amsterdam or Paris. From Burgas or Sofia to VT is bout 3 hours by bus

my wife and i are flying to Bulgaria on the 9th April and we found it far cheaper to fly by easy jet from Manchester to Sofia,the flights were only £99 each return,it was by far the cheapest and it is also a direct flight.

If you like city life by the seaside, think about Varna (the Bulgarian seaside capital - population 340,000+). Many Eastern european tourists and quite a few British ex-pats.

Looking for rural property with land, do you still need to form a company to own the land? I would also like to have a small property near Varna for weekends in summer and for family and friends to visit.

With regards to schools are there any that accommodate English speaking children?

Have you looked at the Targovishte region its just past Shuman,it is a great place it has the up and coming town of Popovo which has everything you will ever need,there are a lot of villages in the area with °µÍø½ûÇøs living in them,and i think that is what you need in your line of work as most of the older Bulgarians still use all their gardens for growing produce,but English might want part of theirs landscaped,thats just a thought.
Anyway i bought mine in a village called Slavyanovo a large house with 2500m2 of land and the property next door which has a ruin on it with another 2000m2 so that its big enough for me.This village has a school and its own train station,at the moment the lady i bought mine off is opening a centre for °µÍø½ûÇøs and Bulgarians to meet up and get to know each other and learn each others language.
The main town Popovo is about 7km away and its kept very clean and tidy a very nice place.
  Where ever you decide to look you will have to give yourselfs time to take everything in as it is so different to what you will be used to.

I'm living in a village 25km from Yambol. I've found the Bulgarians really friendly in this area,  a good few Brits if you want to go that way. I started off in Veliko and it was the opposite, tough bunch. I don't know if I can make recommendations on the sight. I was very fortunate in meeting Nick and Diyana from Bulgarian Real Estate, I rented an apartment from the previous owner and we met up.

They run a very clean business and helped me through everything,it's mine-field here and you need a constant translator to get anything done. Buy a house, car, electric, water, residence,  medical...I never paid extra.

It's a good time to buy, some great bargains but go for renovated, keep away from rebuilding anything, you will end up paying triple and wish you had never come here.
