Category F vs Pink Slip..... ?

shotokan101

Anyone care to comment ? (UK Resident)

Pink Slip obviously only "lasts" for one/2 years, though appears to be fairly easy/guaranteed to be renewable for the 5 years which allows application for permanent residency.

Category F application doesn't appear to be particularly "onerous" and would grant permanentresidency status with tge single application.

Unless I'm missing something obvious, the Financial requirements for Cat F are a LOT lower than "Pink Slip" so what's the deal there?

Anything else to be aware of?

Thanks,

Jim

The Cat F visa has a huge back log as it hasn’t been processed in years.

Temp Res you can stay in Cyprus while it’s processed unlike Cat F where you cannot.

Regarding being able to apply for permanent residency after 5 years of being in Cyprus with the pink slip, I haven't been able to find anything concrete on it.

There's lots of people saying about it, but there isn't any solid information on the government website.

It seems to only be available if you lived in Cyprus prior to 1st Jan 2021.

The only thing I could find was the long-term residency permit, which is valid for 5 years and requires Greek A2 level.

However, when I asked a lawyer about it, they said it's not available to those who resided in Cyprus on a temporary permit.

In theory, Category F is the way to go, however, it has been on hold since 2019, and they've just started processing applications dated May 2019, so the waiting time is as of this moment 5+ years. If i were in your shoes, i would go with Category F and in parallel apply for the Pink Slip "only if you wish to stay in Cyprus for more than 90/180 days"

@The Sandman

Why bother as at 5 yrs  temporary pink slip you can apply for permanent residency anyway. Either way  bars working.

Is there an advantage?

@Toon

You're absolutely right. Only advantage is still getting the PR without resetting the counter in case one had to stay for more than 3 months off the island and re-apply for a pink slip. We applied for cat F back in 2019, got a letter last Oct requesting updated documents as they have started processing applications, so maybe new ones could be processed faster

@The Sandman

I see what you mean,  tbh am not sure if they actually check that absence or if they'd even bother.

Thanks everyone - the real "problem", at least as I see it, is that if you need a pink slip permit while waiting for the Cat F processing, then you need to have a much higher income level than would "eventually" be sufficient - which seems crazy TBH....

Perhaps I should spend some time checking out my wife's family's Irish lineage....

That sounds like a plan ..but you can only go back to grandfather I believe

@shotokan101 the Cat F income requirements haven’t been updated for at least a couple of decades. It’s undoubtedly due to be revised with a hike in income requirements
