Duty on alcohol bottles

susangoldsworthy5

Morning all

On the final stages of moving. Flights booked for 5th May 馃榿.

We have appreciated all the help this forum has provided and I have one final, I hope, question.

Hubby wants to bring his whiskey collection with, single malts, now reading the removal paper work I think it means that any 40% plus proof is paid at 9.41 per % ?????

Which would mean 9.41 x 40聽 = 37.60 per bottle ? Can I one tell me if this is correct or am I reading this wrong? If that figures is right then it goes down the drain 馃槀.

Thanks all.

Hello susangoldsworthy5,

I hope you find the answer soon. Wouldn't want your hubby's collection to literally go down the drain鈥 that would be a real tragedy! 馃構

Cheers,

Maybe this is covered by personal.belongings under the TOR1 mechanism transfer of residence thus it could be free of import taxes and vat... Can you prove how long hubby has had them.

Definitely worth a call or email to customs

Hi - I鈥檓 also relocating in May and have the same issue. I鈥檓 told you have to pay 9.5% duty and 19% VAT on the value of the bottle. So for a bottle worth 100 euros you would have to pay 28.50. There鈥檚 also the problem of proving the value of each bottle, as I鈥檝e no receipts. I鈥檝e decided it鈥檚 not worth it, so I鈥檓 selling at auction. Hope this helps.
