romainlambic

Hej alle, jeg hedder Romain, kommer fra Frankrig.

I'm student in journalism at the University of Cergy-Pontoise. I've lived six month in Copenhagen, thanks to an Erasmus exchange program, a signifient experience for me.

I'm on this forum because I would like have all the important skills to came back in this city and try to develop an activity : create a french-speaking media about danish news, as Copenhagen Post (cphpost.dk) do in English.

My goal is to show the backstage of Denmark to francophones, how the politic, the economy and the society works here. If this media allow danish people who learn french or who already speak it to practice and improve their level, it's perfect.

I currently learn danish, even if it's a little bit difficult but, step by step, I improve it.

Vi ses !

Hej.
I'm Jeff and I'm British. I live in the UK but I have just started a new job in Christianshavn, Copenhagen. I've done my first week and it went welI. My plan is to commute home fortnightly, and once a month my wife will come out to CPH for a long weekend.

Happy to meet-up with other °µÍø½ûÇøs to have a chat, share viewpoints, perhaps visit places and events - and enjoy the inevitable refreshment!

I'm a self employed consultant and work all over Europe, typically for 3 months to 2 years at a time, but always commute home regularly. I'm originally from London and I love to travel, so I combine work and play by working abroad. Outside of work hours, I'm on holiday, enjoying a new country, culture, language, cuisine, architecture, sights, sounds and lots more.

My Danish contract will take me through to the end of 2015 and perhaps to the summer of 2016, when I hope to have mastered a little of the language and a lot of the Scandinavian experience. I like the fact that Sweden is less than 30 minutes away by train, so I have a lot of exploring to do.

Happy St. Patrick's day for tomorrow - is there an °µÍø½ûÇø event anywhere?

Life is what you make of it, so enjoy it!

Jeff.

IoanaTheGreat

Hello everyone!

I recently moved to Denmark, less than a month ago.
My boyfriend got a job here and I said yes to this life challenge.

I am trying to adapt, but it's very difficult because I don't know anyone and I sit all day long alone in the house.
I applied for CPR, but the process is taking forever, so I cannot start Danish courses yet. :(

I used to have an active social life back in Bucharest, so this is a real shock for me, being alone in such a quiet town.
Any advice for me would be really really appreciated!

I am friendly and open-minded and I do hope I'll manage to make friends soon here.

Cheers,
Ioana (it's like Joanna)

kasem22

Loana hi,  hope you are doing well.
Its really hard to be alone in a city you dont know any there. The good thing is two weeks later i ll be moving to Aalborg, and am going to settle there and do my masters. It will be great to meet you there and break the ice of loneliness for both of us.
Looking to hear from you.

BritInCPH

Hi Ioanna,

I agree with Kasem, it must be quite difficult being alone during the day. But there's no reason to stay in all day long, the weather is getting better and it's worth going for a walk to explore your new area. Most Danes speak good English, so you can chat in shops, cafe's and elsewhere.

Have you considered joining a Danish language class? If you Google them, there are quite a few that are free and government supported. There, you can meet other newcomers that are also learning Danish and perhaps make a few friends.

It's not easy to secure a job in Denmark as a foreigner, unless you are sponsored, but don't let that stop you. Consider volunteering at local hospitals, hospices, care groups and anything related to the skills that you have. It will help you meet people and show them what you are capable of.

Give it time and talk to your boyfriend about how you feel. He may have colleagues with partners in the same situation, that you could meet.

I started work in CPH last week and I go for a walkabout every evening after work for 1-2 hours, just to get to know the city and the people. It's a great place if you look for what you like and enjoy. Perhaps take up a new hobby and meet new people.

Good luck in your new home and checkout the events that are arranged by °µÍø½ûÇøs here and on other sites.
