Hi and welcome to the Forum.

You'll find all the information you need on how to claim your UK state pension on the UK Gov website; this will take you straight to it. There are links within the site that will take you to different parts that will answer your questions.

Hopefully, somebody who has personally experienced your situation will post some further information shortly.

I hope this helps.

There is also a HelpLine to ring, but it takes about an hour to actually speak to someone. Best is to phone them 1st thing in the morning should you need assistance.

Spot on.  I was living in the UK when I claimed my state pension and it was surprisingly easy.

Thanks for your reply but in fact my question is not so much about claiming the pension but the strategy  around the costs of transfering the pensions to France...

I would open an account with something like and then transfer the money to your French bank account.

Going back a few years, I looked at this when I began drawing my Service pension while I lived in Holland;  Because the UK Government generally get a much better exchange rate than any bank, I was better off just letting them pay it straight into my overseas bank (ING Bank).  I think I paid a fixed charge of a couple of quid for the privilege.

Thinking about it, this question may get a better response on our French Forum; I shall ask that the Admin Team move it.

Great thanks.

@lanoejacqueline

You can get your uk state pension paid straight into your french bank account at the exchange rate at the time of transfer with no charges or deductions for transfer.

@lanoejacqueline You just need to fill in the forms provided with the IBAN and swift codes of the French bank. I did mine with my education pension this year and it was really straight forward

best wishes

Thanks a lot for your feedback. If I understand correctly I get the equivalent in euros without loss except for the change rate? Is that correct??

Thanks
