Profession liberale visa when one spouse is already retired

travels99

Bonjour!

We have been researching France, and originally were looking at long stay as my husband has military retirement, VA disability and Social Security income.  I'd prefer to wait to file for Social Security till I'm 65 which is still a number of years away.  After a layoff from the IT industry earlier this year, I have decided to pursue a career in the travel industry as an independent travel advisor (independent 1099 contractor) paid commission by a US based host agency that allows you to work from anywhere in the world.

I'm not quite understanding the French visa process in that if I'm just getting started with my education and certifications and we were to say apply next year, I would not yet have the minimum income threshold.  I understand that the professiona liberale is a solo visa application, yet we want to apply for visas at the same time.  My husband would have to apply for the long stay visa.  As his income more than supports us, all our assets are joint would I list them to show that I'd be solvent until my business could meet the threshold within it's first 2 years?

I'm just having a hard time even finding anecdotal information on others in this situation.  It always seems like the freelancing portion is still to pitch things as opening the business in France and I don't really see the point as the travel industry mostly is a US based clientele pool.

Many thanks,

Mary

Welcome, the French embassy will be able to offer you some guidance as well.

Hello,

Thanks so much.  The French Visa website is a bit confusing as it seems to only address if you are trying to setup a new business in France, not have something that is just getting started in the US and will stay in the US.
