residence permit questions

markdogma

hi
i hold british and australian passports,

we arrived in france on december 3rd 2020 and rented an airbnb for 7 weeks and just planning where we want to be based in france going forward  . We also leased a car from Citroen for 6 months when we arrived

i am lead to believe because we arrived before the jan 1st brexit that we can apply for a permit online,
does anyone have experience of this and also the best place to get health insurance.

When we have completed the application online does this give us the right to stay in france until the permit is issued. my request is for a non working residence as i have sufficient means to support without work

i am a bit  concerned as to the 90 day in 180 days max time period in the EU although some websites say because we arrived before 31st december we still have the right to freedom of movement?

any advice would be appreciated , thanks mark

if you haven't found answers on this forum you could search the '°µÍø½ûÇøs in france' and '°µÍø½ûÇø life in france' pages on facebook. There are heaps of Brits in the those groups and the question was asked a lot last year. Aussies in France is a good page too, but probably won't help as in general Aussies need a visa to be in France. Good luck

thanks for that, will have a look

Hello

All the official information you require is on the French government website

It explains the full process and links to forms to fill.
You have until 30th June so no worries but best get it sorted asap

Just one point social security and residency are two separate topics.
You can apply to be part of the French system for as long as you are permanently resident.

As long as you moved here before the end of last year, have a British Passport, you just need to sort out your residency before July but you should apply to the Prefecture de Police online service and try and book a rendezvous.  I applied last May and was only officially notified that I'm on the system in October - 5 months later! I've actually filed again online with additional paperwork including my old carte de Sejour which expired in 1984!  Doesn't mean a thing but there will be a note of previous residency.  My social security number and old address was still on the system.  So I'd start the process very quickly. There are tens of thousands of UK nationals living in France applying.  There will be a large backlog.  Also physically going down to the prefecture is best but because of Covid one has to reserve a rendezvous. A challenging period with Brexit and Covid. Good luck.  PS. I am also Australian...
