New to °µÍø½ûÇø - Heading to Brittany

Martin McA

Hello everyone,

I'm an Irishman with an English family (2 girls aged 9 and 6) in process of looking for somewhere in Brittany to settle. We currently live in the North West UK, where I am a lecturer at a university, and we are close to selling the family home to give us the cash to move.

We've had holidays in recent years in the Cote D'armor, principally around Tredrez Locquemeau, so know that area (Roscoff to Lannion) quite well. Ideally we'd like to live close to the coast, within 20 minutes of a reasonably major town / city, and so have looked at Ploumilliau, Ploulec'h (both close to Lannion) and around Guingamp / Saint Agathon.

Priorities include primary school for the girls - ideally small year groups to help the transition, and a property that is immediately habitable with minimum 3-4 beds and garden. I'm good at the DIY things (plumbing, tiling, flooring, woodwork, plastering) so would be ok taking on something needing work too.

It would be great to hear from anyone already in Brittany about your experiences and any advice on making the transition as smooth as possible would be very welcome.

We may well visit the region again at school half term towards the end of October, but lots to do before then!

Do drop us a line !

Hello Martin, Maeve, Madelaine and Margot ,

Welcome on board !

In regards to property, I would suggest that you post an advert in the Housing in Brittany section. You might get some offers. You may also search on popular websites listed in the Accommodation in France article of the France Guide.

For the rest, I hope members will soon reach out and share their insights on your queries.

All the very best
