Hi,
that's a huge question! I think the best way to get close to the culture is to learn the language. You'll get a lot of credit for a serious effort and you'll be able to bond with the locals much easier.
I lived in Heidelberg which is a bit North from Stuttgart, so it's not really a part of , but still close. I found people there to be quite 'gemütlich', easy-going and enjoying life. I tasted some of the best food down there, for example , and , yummy!
In Germany, Swabians have the reputation to be fond of the understatement, be hardworking or at least appear to be hardworking and orderly in the sense that rules must be kept. The Swabians speak with a distinct dialect which they sometimes are being teased for by other Germans. Don't ask me why, my boyfriend speaks it and I love it.
Maybe it helps when you post in the forum whenever you come across something that strucks you as strange. Maybe some German can then come to the rescue and explain how Germans 'work' :)
