Is it possible to do the Anmeldung before moving in ?

toninRib

Hello. I am moving to München and I have already found an appartment, starting 1st of June and the landlord has already given me the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.

For personnal reason I will be there 1st and 2nd of June (which are respectively a Saturday and a Sunday) - and few days before - and then I won't be able to come back before mid-June. It means I won't be able to do the Anmeldung within the 14 days after I move in (unfortunately Bürgerbüro are closed on Saturday and Sunday).

So my question is: since I have everything needed for the Anmeldung (passport, work contract and Wohnungsgeberbestätigung), is it possible to do it before the official day on the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung ?

Alternative question: is it really mandatory to do it within the 14 days after move in ?

Thank you in advance for you replies :)

Hi toninRib.

Yes, it is the law that you have to register within 14 days (Bundesmelde Gesetz=BMG).

The entry into the appartment has already been made.  Registration with a date that lies in the future is not legally possible!

You must be visited in person or you can be represented by an authorized person (e.g.  your landlord). Talk to him.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your answer.

In fact, I still don't have the keys of the appartment. I will get it 1st of July. But my landlord has already provided me the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.

But as I understand I probably need to change my plan and manage to register myself... I doubt my landlord will go to the Bürgerbüro for me.
