Considering a move to Dublin for 1-2 years

uarogers

We are a family with 2 kids (girls 10 & 13) considering a move to Dublin for 1-2 years. We have been °µÍø½ûÇøs before in Austria, but had no children back then so it puts a different spin on it this time.

Concerned about the ages of my children and moving them back and forth at such a tough age. Interested in anyone else's experience in Dublin (including school recommendations - no idea where we would be yet) who have children similar in age range.

Thanks.

Welcome to °µÍø½ûÇø :)

I have created a new topic from your post on the Dublin Forum for a better interaction

I suggest you check out this article regarding Study in Ireland in the guide. Might find some helpful and interesting informations :)

Thank you

Just wanted to chime in because I saw you are from Raleigh.  Small world...my sister and her family live there (with girls near yours' ages)

I'm from Virginia and have been living in Dublin for almost 5 years now.  My husband is also American and we have kids aged 7, 5 and 1.

I don't have experience with kids your age but like you, I would be very concerned about moving girls at such pivotal and volatile ages.  It could go either way, ya know?  I think the best answer to the question is "It depends on the child"

As for you...if the last time you were an ex-pat was before kids, then things will be very different this go 'round.  If you're working out of the house, that will be a good outlet for social interaction.  You might meet some people that way.

My husband had the work permit and I was at home with the kids when we moved here.  Very isolating.  Then ever so slowly, we met friends.  99.9% of whom were via our children (playgrounds, playgroups, montessori, school etc.)  Not easy it really took plenty of time to feel like part of the community.

Best of luck....if you want to PM me with any questions, feel free to PM me.
