Average Wage in Italy?

rainman8

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the average wage in Italy is.  I saw somewhere it's around €15.000???  It sounds low compared to Australia's average wage of €45,000 but I am assuming that if it's true it adjusts itself with costs of living differences etc etc.  I know property is much more expensive in Australia than Italy such as rentals are around double.  Alcohol is radiculously cheap in Italy also,  €10 for a bottle of JW Scotch :)  Its around €30 in Australia!!!

Anyway,  if anyone has any stats let me know.

Grazie,

Buongiorno

I can't speak for Australia but it does depend upon which area of Italy you work in. Obviously the cities will pay much higher rates than the rural areas.

You could try a home based business as I have and then you would get paid the same commission whereever you worked in the world. These are thriving throughout Europe at the moment so a good money earner.

Hello,

well, just take statistics...US $ 35,230 is the average GDP per capita in 2010 (source imf). But I don't want to annoy you with explanations about inequality, briefly, young people are generally far from average, and the north of Italy is way richer than the south.

In general prices are similar to the rest of western Europe, renting a room is expansive in big cities, but food might seem to you cheap, especially in the south.

As far as I know drinks are not under a special tax regime, this explains why you find them cheap.

Young people with any level of educations start from very low salaries (approx 1000-1200 € net per month for a graduate), they start to work later than people in anglo-saxon countries cause university is well subsidized compared to UK or USA.

Hope it helps to understand!
