Civil service with less resonsibility does not exist in Malta. Only with no responsibility but these well paid jobs are only for Maltese!-))

The only civil servants I know in Malta collect garbage bags, sweep the streets, guard holes in the street and check that buses come on time! What are your qualifications ? You might need to be a party member to get a decent job.

Salary will be around 1000 €/month unless you have language/IT qualifications. I would forget learning Maltese , it won't help job wise.

Check out the vehicle and make sure you have all the requirements as it can get very expensive otherwise. Is the Jeep worth bringing over?

Welcome to the Forum and I do agree with some (SOME) of Ricky's comments.

Civil Servant Jobs in Malta are for the Maltese and it is very difficult to get into one of these.

However, I do disagree with the learning of Maltese.... I have been learning for a little while now and the Maltese do appreciste that you are in their country and trying to speak their Language, however most try to talk back in english.

There is a very large divide I have noticed between the North of the island and the south, with the North being more touristic and louder and the south being dare i say it more Maltese.... You seemed to get helped a lot more in the south and dont tend to get ripped off like you do in the North (Everyones a tourist).

Jeep wise, If you have owned it for more than 2 years then you wont have import duty to pay, however the Annual tax will be expensive...

Average Salary in Malta is €1200 a month with a Minimum wage set at about €158 a week. Although there are Jobs here above that in Igaming etc...

We learned basic maltese for a year - but then we found that most responses are in english as they see the way you dress and the accent and know you are english and as such reply in english...however thats not to say you shouldnt learn some maltese as it is helpful to learn how words are spoken, pronounced, spelled and interesteing to know where the words originated. I have to say we gave up on it (ashamed really) as it wasnt what we wanted to learn in the class...we have learned far more from local nationals (many of them now friends) in our village, but you do have to be willing at times to look an idiot if you get it wrong...but it is, for us anyway, fun.....sometimes its a great laugh when you realise exactly what you just said as its largely based on context (the same word can and often does have a different meaning dependong on what it is that you are talking about) and is a very semitic langauge - a mix of all sorts of cultures and languages which to me makes it interesting.

Well peeps got the job sorted, located and secured a lovely flat in Naxxar and due to move early November . Plan was always for October / November so everything gone to plan  really looking forward to the new life. Appreciate it will be different from Edinburgh , new chapter  in life. Look forward to Malta full time
