Take any one of the buses going past Gzira to Valletta, then take a 61, it takes approx 15 minutes to Qormi - at that time of morning could be less! It goes through the Marsa Park and Ride and then through Qormi, - it depends which part of Qormi you want to go to. There is also a 62 from Valletta going through a different part of Qormi - ask at the bus station which one is the best for you.

The problem is that my first shift starts 6 o clock in the morning. Arriva buses not going that early. Do you know any other transport in Malta?

I have to say that I kind of agree with Terry!

As you can see by the map, it's about 5 to 7 kms from Gzira to Qormi, depending where you live and where you work.



If you struggle getting a bus, you might just get a bike and cycle to work, it would save you from a lot of hassle and at the same time, you'll save money in a long term and you'll benefit health wise Think about it!

Cheers guys,First I thought that it was a joke.I didnt think that  cycling to work in Malta is possible, cause roads are tiny, but I might really consider that.

what about 110? it goes from Sliema to Marsa passing Mater Dei and Qormi. its once an hour but there seems to be one at 5.15 am?



Although I'd call them and confirm if there is one that early. I don't know where you need to go in Qormi though as it stops only at a bus stop which a bit further below from HSBC headquarters. Then to go back, there is a bus stop in front of Joinwell

I think bus 110 will be the best solution. I will try to take this bus to see how long is going to take to get to work.

If you want to take the bike, do NOT take the route indicated on the previous entry. It is not only illegal but also suicidal.

Take the valley road into Birkirkara, and from there the Triq Fleur de Lys. If you need gear (like a good light for after August) or any other gear, the place to go to is the Cyclist in San Gwann. (not a commercial, simply a customer there myself)

The map I have posted above, was not with the intention for OP to follow that route, was basically, so she could have a ruffly idea of the distance between where she lives to the point where she works. Please do not misjudge other peoples intentions!

Mantonas you are becoming tetchy like some of the regulars on here! EMI05 is correct about it being a suicidal route. If I didn't know the Qormi area I would also have understood your post to say take that route by bike. You are normally so cheerful, please don't change

I would applaud anyone recommending cycling and it is up to the cyclist themselves to decide upon their best route. However, Malta is the worst country in the EU for cycling and insurance is reportedly difficult if not impossible to get.



I would also not criticise anyone for trying to genuinely help nor make personal comments; particularly I would not assume to define how they are feeling.

I agree with redmik here, especially the last paragraph, the written text can often be taken in the wrong way and misunderstandings occur.

i for one didnt misunderstand the map and text at all and i didnt take it as being a recommended route for a cycle..i understood it to be exactly what he said. sorry guys am with mantonas on this one.

Hi all,

several weeks ago I actually experienced a hit and run by cyclists on the Sliema seafront promenade who were racing and ran down an older English lady throwing her on the ground and braking her arm. We called the ambulance and the police, both taking about 30 minutes to arrive. In the meantime the culprits (younger , maybe Maltese , maybe not)had fled the scene and the police did not take take further notice or action !

I would definitly promote a no-cycling law on the promenade after experiencing that !

Whether you drive or walk in Sliema , it is dangerous and there is no sense of responsibility for others on the streets or pavements.

Nearly happened to me on the same promenade in February after an °µÍø½ûÇø evening at Biancas' Was walking along looking across at the sea when I moved not more than a step to my side. Fortunately my husband saw the maniac racing down from behind me and pulled me back to where I had been, if he had hit me I reckon I would have had a broken back, not just an arm!  Idiots.......they should not be allowed to cycle there at all

Another danger re: cycling is the drain cover slats run in the direction of traffic and not at right angles, thus front tyre becomes stick in the grating. Several articles in ToM refer to this.

Coming back to the topic, does anyone know about mini bus service? Is it just for kids to get to school? Or taxi service for regular customers?

Not all are like that and some are being re-aligned but certainly I've seen many and there are articles going into the usual political spheres about this.
