How do I get into teaching in malta?

Adi9626

I am currently living and working as a welder in malta, Monday-Friday, supporting a family of three, me my wife and one year old son. I want to get into teaching. I have no experience other than the 8 hours I did on my CELTA and I struggled. I couldn't risk my family on getting a EFL job so I want to get a teaching assistant job in schools to gain experience, that way I can make ends meet and work my way towards an application for a PGCE as a professional. I don't want to teach ELF, it wouldn't earn enough to support my wife and child.

How can I get a teaching assistant job? Where are they advertised? I hear the position is called an 'IPA' is this correct?

To work as a teaching assistant in Malta you have to be able to communicate in Maltese and English.

You also need to be qualified as through a Diploma at MQF Level 4 for example or other qualifying degrees.

The salaries start at around 12 000 Euros / year plus bonuses.

In International schools you can get away without Maltese language skills but the qualifications can be higher.
