the price of school and accommodation

Hi everyone,

As I posted the topic in the previous, I plan to study English course in Malta in March and will stay for 9 months to 1 year.

But till now, I didn't find the good school for learning. I serach the school from website or friend, there are 5 schools sounds good, ESE, EC, NSTS, Chamber, Magister, the price almost above EURO300-320 /per week include the course and accommodation(half-board), specially in summer from June to September, the price will be increase by 20%-30% as above EURO400 per week around and exclude air conditioning and heating which are paid for as per consumption.

Can everyone tell me,
1. Are these five schools are good choice in Malta? Could you kindly provide the school you know or you heard?
2. The price as mentioned as above are normal in Malta?

My learning not for exam just can reach good listen, speak, read and write it's ok for me.

Hi Jenny,

The prices you quote are normal prices for Malta.

I checked two (AM and NSTS) and found prices for General English courses (20 hours/week) from 112,-聙 to 150,-聙/week with a summer supplement of between 35 and 50 聙/week.

Accomodation in a host family starts from 150聙/week to over 250 聙/week and can be BB or half-board.
Hotels will cost a lot more.

The main difference seems to be size and age group catered for.

ESE and EC are very big and have younger students , the other schools are smaller.

Noted with thanks, maybe I need rejustment my plan, I may consider take the part-time job in Malta.

I have the CPA qualification, is this to find the part-time of accounting in locality to be easy?

By the way, Ricky, till now am school is good choice for me. Thanks again for your warmly help and useful information.

Hi Jenny,

Please be aware of the residence requirements for third-country(non-EU) nationals coming to Malta to study.

There are several conditions which mostly mean paying your course up-front and showing that you have the financial means to stay in Malta during your studies.

And as a student you will not get a work permit during your first year of study.

Dear Ricky,

Thanks for your advice. Yes, mostly school must pay the full amount first, I have prepared.

But for work permit can't get it in the first year of study, I didn't heard before, I heard that anybody or company hire they must help you get the permit. This is very valuable information for me.

Hi Jenny,

There are many more pot holes for third-country (non-EU) nationals seeking to work in the EU or Malta.

In Malta they are not even allowed to work part-time if they have found a company willing to apply for a work permit for them. So it is impossible to study and have a full-time job if you could find one.

Please check the residence requirements before you make further plans.
