same here am confused about tax on annual salaries?

Toon

in very simple terms once you have a got a job offer you go to the job centre and get an NI number - once you have got that - you will be subject to tax on your pay.

simply like this
For the first 8500 euros per yr no tax is payable
the next 6000 euros tax is payable at 15% (on the figure over 8500euros to 14500euros)
the next 5000 euros tax is payable at 25% (on the figure over 14500euros to 19500 euros)
for figures over 19500 you pay 35% tax (on the figure above 19500 euros)

on top of this of course you will pay National Insurance charges to cover health care and a maltese pension. this can be as much as 25 euros per week....all depends on salary etc plus the tax and NI will usually be deducted at source by your employer    each month or week pro rata

Normally what is the trend there in Malta whether employer offer net of tax salary or gross salary? If i have been offered 18k , then wht does it mean cz nothing mentioned in contract.

sunshinemalta

Salary offered is  always Gross Salary.
My understanding is that the employer is liable to half of National Insurance  whereas the employee pays the other half and tax as applicable. Then again,  a professional  would give you the appropriate advice.
With regards to tax matters there  are  some professional  guidelines  on the °µÍø½ûÇø website Guide to Malta

salary is like most other european countries - ALWAYS QUOTED GROSS - thus tax and NI etc is taken off it...thus NET SALARY is what is left. and you take home and spend.

@@@ toonarmy9752

If gross salary is Euro 18000 then what should be the net salary in my hand? wht is the tax figure and NI?

me3512

Salaries are low but good enough to live here....  I would highly recommend registering with ETC as soon as you get here so you get the daily emails on job postings is a great way to go but sunday times is still the best..

tax per year will be approx 1775 euros per year and the NI (not really sure of the NI) but would imagine that to be in excess of 25 euros per week (so approx 1300euros)

as an example a friend of mine earns approx 15k euro and pays approx 100 euros a month tax and 135 euros for the month in NI - mind that was a 5 weeks month for NI.

this person is a single

hope this helps

Toon

about 15k per yr in your hand so approx 1250 euros per month to spend

but remember i think you will also get the COLA (cost of living allowance) payment made to you once every three months of about 100 euros or so.

also the benefit of paying tax is that may be treated like any other resident of malta in terms of cheaper elec and water bills and as you will be paying NI you may may get treated better in terms of free healthcare (not 100% sure of that bit If you are NON EU)

I was told that the home is necessary before having a job. There may be many options.
