Look at GO regarding PAYG. They have some reasonable deals and in my view, provide a pretty good service. Other options are Melita or Vodafone.

If you look for accommodation a little inland, need not be far, you should get the best deal.  From Sliema check the map for Balzan, Birkirkara, San. Gwann etc. There might be others.  If you plan to use local buses, San Gwann has a bus directly to Sliema.

I suggest you check the Malta Transport site for a map, bus routes and frequencies and choose a location which works for you. Most buses end up in Valletta where the main terminus is.  Th

There are few tourists or foreign language students because of Covid 19 so you might find rents a little lower at the  moment.

Owing to lockdown no displays. The maltese dont take notice of the Covid as you will find out. Also if coming from UK you will have to self isolate. Malta is a very small country and is expensive if paying rent if 750 be prepared for 50 to 80 euro for water etc. Plus as you will find out food is dear.

I suggested you try San Gwann as easily accessible to Sliema.  Also, it has a Lidl there, which is about the best value for quality food.

The gov website doesn't say you have to isolate? You have to provide a negative covid test taken within 72 hours of travelling

No, I've just checked the Gov website, vistmalta.com and called the Malta Tourism Authority, they all said UK is on the Amber list which means you need a negative test but do not have to quarantine. Did you travel via somewhere else? Because they categorically said on the phone that you do not need to quarantine from the UK.

50-80 euro for water, for what time scale?   Our electric and water together are less then 80 on our bills,
if you shop around food can be bought at a reasonable price.
