Blue card TCN family reunification tips and processing times

omarx373

Hello,

I'm moving to Malta soon, currently in the final steps of having my visa stamped (collecting some papers for the application).

I have a couple of questions and I hope another TCN with a blue card or someone with solid information can answer from recent experience.

1- Can I apply for my wife at the same time while I apply for my visa? (Already sent the question to identity Malta CVU and waiting for a reply)

2- I was told by some people that the option to explore is to apply for my wife to join me after I reach Malta as soon as I get my residency permit/card (legislation 217.15 allows that with the minimum one year residency term before applying being waived for blue card holders). The question: How long will it take to get the residency card from the time I reach Malta the first time on work permit visa (KEI Single permit)?

3- is there an expedited (premium visa service) option for family reunification visa?

4- does the nationality of my wife, who is also a TCN affect the processing times? (My lovely wife is Tunisian)

Hello,

Sorry, I can't add much to the topic as I'm seemingly in the same situation and looking for answers. Please share your findings though, would be very much appreciated :-)

The only thing regarding processing times I could find is in Paragraph 14.3 of legislation 217.15 which states processing times of no more than six months (which I know is not the answer you've been hoping for, but seems like nothing happens quickly here in Malta).

I hope you've landed in Malta safely and enjoying your stay!

@omarx373 Hi, hope everything worked out ok with your efforts to secure a visa for your partner.

I'm in a similar situation to what you have mentioned, currently in the final stages of applying for a C5 KEI Visa and hoping to have my partner join me. We are both Non-EU nationals that would be very appreciative of any feedback you could provide from your experiences.

Cheers

@Dan Griff did you manage? I am KEI and have approval in principle and abroad but my wife got declined even though the policy clearly allows for it?! I even got it in writing from identity beforehand but seems whoever picked up the file was not aware of the exemptions as the letter of refusal referenced the standard rules
