Economically Self Sufficient Residence Malta 🇲🇹

taqi47

Hello, i am interested in moving to Malta from Pakistan.
I am getting passive income around €1100 per month in the form of bank interest and car rental.
I can also manage to transfer between €30,000 to €50,000 in a bank in Malta to show self sufficiency.
Will i be eligible for Ordinary Residence Permit in Malta (economically self Sufficient) ?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Kindest Regards.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

To obtain a residence permit on the basis of economic self-sufficiency, you would need to be eligible for the Global Residence Programme, the Malta Residence and Visa Programme, Malta Retirement Programme or Acquisition of Citizenship.

Further details can be found here.

As a third country national, you may also apply for a single permit if you are employed in Malta.

Alternatively, you may apply for a Nomad Residence Permit if

a) you work for an employer that is registered in a foreign country and you have a contract of work with that employer;
b) you conduct business activity for a company that is registered in a foreign country and of which you are a partner/shareholder; or
c) you offer freelance or consulting services mostly to clients, whose permanent establishments are in a
foreign country, and with whom you have contracts.

Nomad Residence Permit applicants must reach a monthly income threshold of EUR 2,700 gross of tax, in addition to a 20% of the median wage for each family member.

Would you be interested in investing in a Recruitment Agency here in Malta

taqi47

Evreham thanks for your comment..  I have read online that non-EU national can also apply for self Sufficient Residence permit in Malta 🇲🇹

Here is the link :

I was wondering if someone has actually managed to get it.

taqi47

@Mike ... Sorry i have no idea how it works,   basically i don't want to invest big amounts into anything besides cryptocurrencies..

Thats why i was looking for a more feasible option to move to Europe.
I was also looking at different options like Portugal but language is a turn off and also Portuguese embassy in Pakistan is currently not accepting d7 visa applications.
My first priority still remains Malta 🇲🇹

@evreham

The link you just shared it does say tha ECONOMIC SELF SUFFICIENCY

   Third Country Nationals
The residence permit specifies the purpose of the holder’s authorization to stay in Malta, which may include the following instances:

Economic self-sufficiency;

Study and Researchers;
Family Members;
Long-term residence;
Exemption under national legislation;
Highly qualified employment;
Intra-corporate Transferees;

Other reasons.

Yes, exactly. To apply for a permit on the basis of self sufficiency, you would need to qualify for one of the following programmes

Global Residence Programme

Malta Residence and Visa Programme

Malta Retirement Programme

Acquisition of Citizenship

The link I provided on my previous post was to the Malta Government Agency responsible for citizens’ identity management and the implementation of migration processes. The links listed above are also official Malta Government departments.

The website you have been referring to

may not be providing the correct up to date information I'm afraid. It lists "Malta’s self-sufficiency residency permit for passive income" with a requirement of "Proof of €50,000 in savings OR a regular income of €370 per month, for a single applicant, €436 for a couple, plus €33 for each dependent child)"

This type of permit is not one that I have heard of previously, but an income requirement of €370 per month is unrealistically low considering the legal minimum monthly wage in Malta is €784.68

Perhaps you could click the book a consultation  button with Digital Émigré to find out more about this programme?
