Canadians trying to relocate to Malta

keithgriff123

Hello all, just joined today.
Been in Malta for 6 weeks now, but spent the first 2 weeks in quarantine because the Canadian government can't cope with the technology of putting a QR code on our vaccine certificates.
Trying to get residency via Retirement program which is now available to non-EU. Its like playing Whack-a-mole. Every time I think we have everything together, they seem to find more boxes that have to be ticked. We have to get 65 y o birth certificate 'Apostille'. Not sure if we are going to make it in time, and not sure what will happen if we don't....stressful times.

Dear folks, do not worry. many folks in Malta are non residents and the best way to handle your situation is to remain as a tourist whilst you assemble the required papers proving your self sustaining ability. The Maltese bureaucracy may seem somewhat daunting but stay cool and am sure you will be fine.

Hi there! I'm from the UK and hoping to re-locate to Malta (Gozo, actually) as a retiree. But I still haven't been able to discover if there is a minimum annual or monthly income requirement. It seems like a minefield!
Sorry I'm not able to assist you.

Regards

Hi

What did you want to know?

keithbarry

I want to know if there is a requirement by the Maltese Government for non EU Nationals (from the UK in my case) to have a minimum monthly income if they want to live full time in Malta.

KB

Why not get in touch with Identity Malta and ask them about TCN's requirements for self sufficiency when you are next here?

Try this link to another group which actually quotes requirements and figures.

I agree it would be best to get in touch with Identity Malta to ask about the TCN's requirements rather than rely on third party websites as this information may me incorrect or out of date. For example this third party site lists "Residence permit fees are €23.29 per year"when in fact the fee has been €280.50 for a good number of years. Please always check official Malta Government websites.

More information on the Malta Retirement Programme can be found here

This includes the property rental or purchase obligations, however I could not seem to find a minimum income requirement within the guidelines, only a note on the minimum tax payable on page 11.

You would need to submit your application through an Authorised Registered Mandatory, so perhaps you could contact one and ask for their advice beforehand.
