Moved to the Netherlands and did my first solo day trip with two kids

Liz and Mike

Last week I took my two kids (4 and 8) on a day trip.
We just moved to the Netherlands recently, and it was the first time I managed a full day out with both kids on my own. No partner around, just me.
We were out for hours: buses, a train ride, lots of walking. And it really hit me how much invisible juggling happens as a parent.
Snacks, questions, bathroom stops, emotional meltdowns... all while trying to keep things fun and light.

At one point, a staff member smiled and said, “You’ve got your hands full, remember you are doing great.”
It was such a small thing, but weirdly, it stayed with me. I felt seen. Like someone noticed how much I was trying to hold together.

Later, someone else offered help with the bags, but it was loud and kind of awkward. I know they meant well, but it felt like I was being rescued. Same intention, totally different effect.

It made me wonder:
What does feeling supported actually mean when you're out with your kids?
 Is it someone stepping in?
 Just being acknowledged?
Or not being noticed at all?

I’m really curious how other parents experience this, especially those who travel solo with their kids.
Would love to hear your stories 💬💛
