Allergy Doctors in Amsterdam

bohnang

Hi Everyone!

I'm moving to Amsterdam in a month and am trying to learn the health care system.

Specifically, I have a lot of allergies and see an allergist doctor regularly for medications I need.

2 questions on this:
1 - Does anyone know of any allergy doctors in the area or how to search for them?
2 - Do I need to be seen by a general practitioner first who then refers me to an allergist in order for it to be covered by insurance?

Side note, I will have Cigna international insurance and will also obtain the standard package that's required for Dutch health insurance.

Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Almost all medicine is via your GP.  As soon as you register and have your BSN number, you can choose your health insurance; the Dutch Health Insurers have a helpline you can speak to and this will take you straight to their website; it has a Chat function and some Q&A's.

When you choose your healthcare insurer policy, make sure it covers you for the medications you will need, in particular your allergies meds.

As for finding a specialist, speak to your doctor and he/she will advise.  I'd advise you to bring a letter of introduction from your current allergy specialist so as to expedite any issues you may encounter in the Netherlands.

Hope this helps.
