Private Healthcare in Norway

Hi, I'm new to Oslo and will be covered under the national health insurance scheme. However, I'm also interested to know what kind of private options are available. What companies or practitioners are available, and how does the quality of care/doctor expertise compare to the public sector? I've tried Googling out this information, but English resources seem to be limited. All I've found is one company called Aleris, which seems to have quite mixed reviews.

Hopefully my Norwegian will soon be good enough not to need to use English for these matters, but for now it's what I'm working with.

I previously spent 10 years in Finland, where I used the public sector for health issues that were not severe or urgent, but due to long waits and widely varying doctor expertise, I liked having the private sector to fall back on. I'm not sure how similar the situation is in Norway, but I'd appreciate any information you can share!

There is also another private healthcare provider called Volvat.聽 I have never used private healthcare, thus I am unsure about the quality.

You can also approach the specialists that are on public system using private status.聽 Of course you will need to pay a significant amount.

I was told by other mothers who have kids and sometimes need to see private urgently, the services of Volvat and Aleris varies based on the doctors.聽 If you know people who know a good doctor in these clinics, you can request to see them instead of letting the clinic assigns one to you.

Just called in for an appointment with the specialist and let them know you are seeing them under private status.聽 You will pay the full fee.聽 I guarrantee you will get an appointment very fast.
